All-Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Conflict

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Modern Conflict was originally founded on 17 October 2012 as the APPG on Drones, later the APPG on Drones and Modern Conflict and now the APPG on Modern Conflict. Recognising the rapid changes in the areas of emerging technology, its use in defence and security, and the changing global security landscape, the Group’s scope has shifted over the past years. The Group now examines a broader problem set: the capabilities and commitments driving contemporary warfare, including emerging technology, covert operations, and other issues which are outpacing conventional oversight mechanisms and safeguarding regimes and resulting in rising civilian casualties worldwide. Our work is enabled through close collaboration with and through partners to deliver impact-informed research and policy advancements in the United Kingdom and beyond. What is an All-Party Parliamentary Group?

An All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) is an interest group that occupies a strategic and effective position within Parliament. It is cross-party, with a minimum number of Parliamentarians from the Government and the official opposition; and cross-house, made up of both peers and MPs.

The Group’s status is that of an All Party Parliamentary Group, bound by the rules set out by The Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.  It does not have charitable status, or official status in the House, nor is it funded by Parliament.

The Group’s entry on the Register of All-Party Groups can be found here.
